VOLUNTEER TO HELP OUT THE CAMPAIGN
Representative Janel Brandtjen is a principled and consistent social and fiscal conservative catalyst and small business owner first elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in November 2014, where she continues her reputation for honesty, principled leadership and hard work. She lives in Menomonee Falls where she and her husband Rick have raised two amazing daughters and developed a marketing company which they’ve operated in the Menomonee Falls area for the past 25 years. In the legislature, Rep. Brandtjen is a champion for survivors of violent crime and supporting public safety, and was recognized once again during the most recent legislative session on the Wisconsin Professional Police Association’s Law Enforcement Honor Roll. Janel authored the Sexual Assault Survivor Bill of Rights, legislation to end sexual assault kit backlogs and combat human trafficking, and sponsored numerous other bills, including enforcing gun prohibitions for dangerous felons, truth-in-sentencing for violent crimes and mandatory revocation hearings for repeat serious offenders, and funding additional beat patrols for car thefts.
Janel has co-authored legislation to cut taxes on residential heating and electric bills, end the phony phone tax, eliminate unfunded mandates on local government and property taxpayers, and require Wisconsin’s budget to follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to reduce the potential for excessive borrowing and the risk of future deficits.
One of her highest priorities has been to assist thousands of constituents cut through red tape with government agencies regarding unemployment, licensing, permits, taxes, health services and veterans issues.
Janel has been a leader in defending our Constitutional liberties, including 2nd Amendment rights (NRA Life Member) and the Right to Life, where she is a former Pro-Life Wisconsin Legislator of the Year and author of critical adoption reform proposals. Rep. Brandtjen was a leader against government shutdowns and heavy-handed mandates against businesses, in-person student learning, religious gatherings and healthcare freedom.
Following the 2020 elections, Janel spotlighted a variety of needed election integrity and bureaucratic reforms as the Chair of the Campaigns & Elections Committee and the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Government Accountability & Oversight. She is also a member of the Corrections, Public Benefit Reform, and Science, Technology & Broadband committees. Unafraid to ruffle feathers in the political establishment and serve constituents over Madison party bosses, some have attacked her independence from legislative ‘leadership’- but she wouldn’t have it any other way.
Janel served for six years on the Waukesha County Board beginning in 2008, serving on the Executive, Health & Human Services, and Judiciary & Law Enforcement Committees. Janel was born and raised in Wisconsin, and has lived in Menomonee Falls since 1998. She is a graduate of John Marshall High School and earned a Business Degree in Finance & Marketing from UW-Milwaukee. The Brandtjens are members of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
